Distance Choose 'distance' if you're going to use your glasses for distance viewing, for example for driving a car or normal everyday use. These lenses are thicker at the edges than in the middle. It's better to choose a smaller frame to keep the edges as thin as possible. You may also wish to choose for Extra or Ultra Thin lenses. These are about 40% thinner and lighter than normal lenses. They often look more attractive and are more comfortable to wear than normal lenses. Reading Choose 'reading' if you're going to use your glasses for nearby viewing, for example for reading. These lenses are thicker in the middle than they are on the edges. Avoid large frames if possible because these will make them heavier. Standard lenses UV The price of all the lenses is for a set lenses (right + left). All of our synthetic lenses are single vision lenses. Our standard lenses are high quality and always come with a UV filter which fully protects your eyes from damaging Ultra Violet rays. We can deliver standard lenses from +3.00 up to and including -5.00 at no extra cost. For prescription values of -3.00 and higher we recommend Extra Thin lenses because they are much more comfortable to wear. Standard lenses UV / SR (scratch resistant) On top of the above mentioned marks these lenses also have a scratch resistant and liquid-repellent protective coating. Standard lenses UV / SR / NR (non-reflective) On top of the above mentioned marks these lenses also have a non-reflective coating. The coating provides better evening viewing, especially in artificial light. Another benefit is that the lenses with non-reflective coating makes your eyes visible to others. Extra Thin UV / super SR (scratch resistant) / NR (non-reflective) / light and comfortable Extra Thin lenses are made of a special synthetic material which significantly reduces the thickness of the lenses and have a extra scratch resistant and liquid-repellent protective coating. These lenses have also a UV 400 filter which fully protects your eyes from damaging Ultra Violet rays. And with the non-reflective coating evening viewing is better, especially in artificial light. Another benefit is that the lenses with non-reflective coating makes your eyes visible to others. Extra Thin lenses can't be tinted. Ultra Thin UV / super SR (scratch resistant) / NR (non-reflective) / light and comfortable Ultra Thin lenses are made of a special synthetic material which significantly reduces the thickness of the lenses and also have a extra scratch resistant and liquid-repellent protective coating. The UV 400 filter fully protects your eyes from damaging Ultra Violet rays. And with the non-reflective coating evening viewing is better, especially in artificial light. The tinted lenses have a UV 400 filter. If you are planning to use your glasses as prescription sunglasses it is best to choose brown and green or grey colors because they work the best in strong sunlight. We supply these three tints in the European standard 3, that means 20% transmittance. The tints blue, yellow and red can't be used for sunglasses. These tints are supplied with the European standard 2, that means 60% transmittance. Photochromatic lenses A pair of glasses with photochromatic lenses is really handy in the summer The amount of sunlight that these lenses are exposed to causes them to adjust their strength and protection accordingly. The added advantage is that if you go inside a building, the glasses become clear again. Photochromatic lenses are available in brown or grey. These can be delivered from a prescription value of +4.00 up to and including -4.00 and they also have a UV 400 filter. On top of the mentioned marks these lenses have a scratch resistant and liquid-repellent protective coating and also a non-reflective coating that provides better evening viewing, especially in artificial light. Polarized lenses Polarized lenses are already tinted brown or grey. These lenses enhance contrast to a significant degree, and remove glare. This is very useful if you like watersports or if you're on the road often and your vision suffers because of reflected light on wet road surfaces. Polarized lenses are not available in Extra or Ultra Thin. brilerbij.nl delivers polarizing lenses from prescription values of +4.00 up to and including -6.00. They also have a UV 400 filter. General In order to make the correct lenses for you, we need the exact information from your glasses prescription. The information for each eye must be provided. Please remember that your prescription may not be older than two years. If this is not the case, have a new eye test done by your local optician, an optometrist or an ophthalmologist. Sphere Sphere determines the strength of the lens. "Farsightedness" is corrected with positive sphere values and "nearsightedness" by negative values. If the sphere values are negative for one eye, they will also be negative for the other eye. brilerbij.nl makes and delivers lenses with a prescription value of +4.00 up to and including -10.00. Cylinder The cylinder provides the strength values of the cylindrical deviance, also called astigmatism. Cylinder values are always the same for both eyes, be they negative or positive. The range of the cylinder values lies between +2.00 up to and including -2.00. The information about possible cylinder values can be found on the spectacle prescription. The indication C or CYL will give you the value of the cylinder. A cylinder value goes together with an 'Axis'-value. This is also found on the prescription as the Axis-value. Axis The Axis-value is the degree of the astigmatic correction. If there is a cylinder value on your prescription, there should also be a value for the Axis. The Axis-values range from 0 to 180 degrees. Addition (add.) The reading strength is often given as an addition to the distance correction. The addition is almost always the same for both eyes and is always indicated in +strength values on the prescription. The addition is necessary in order to make reading glasses for someone who also requires a distance correction. Both corrections can be crafted into one lens, these are the so-called bifocal and multifocal lenses. At brilerbij.nl we have decided, for the time being, not to make or sell these kinds of lenses. If there is an addition value indicated on your prescription this should be included in your information. Pupil distance (PD) Pupil distance (PD) is the distance between your pupils, measured from the center of them. By knowing this distance we can fit the lenses to the best position in your frame. There are 2 PD’s. The ‘distance’ PD and the ‘reading’ PD. The ‘distance’ PD is what most opticians write. In that case, you'll find on your prescription either one numerical value between 52 and 70 - for example 62 - or two values – for example 31 and 31 . If two numerical values are shown you should add both numbers together to get your pupil distance. The total will be in the range starting from 52 up to 70. Another option is to use an average pupil distance as indicated on our site. The value for most adults is between 60 and 65. At brilerbij.nl we use an average of 63. The ‘reading’ PD is only used for presbyopes who will use there spectacles exclusively for reading. To be a presbyope you need to have a reading addition (ADD) written on your prescription. Normally the PD is written in your prescription as Distance PD (e.g. 62 mm) and Reading PD (e.g. 60 mm) or in the form 62/60. If you do not have a reading addition then you only need to input the ‘distance’ PD.
